HS2 Tunnel Extension Concern

HS2 Tunnel Extension Concern

The parish council has received details of an HS2 planning application to the district council indicating a material change to HS2's original Environmental Statement.
The Greatworth tunnel is being extended about 650m northwards into our parish and the portal will now be north of the Banbury Road, fairly close to the sewage plant in Bulls Lane.
Noise issue is a prime concern, particularly the possibility of the industry recognised problem of tunnel boom as trains emerge from the tunnel. A noise barrier will be provided on the village side of the line from the portal going northwards. HS2 has provided a noise assessment report to support its plans. A copy of the report and the plan showing the portal are attached.
This issue will be discussed at the parish council meeting in the village hall at 7.00pm on Monday 27 September. All parishioners are welcome to attend. The parish council's response to the application is required by 8 October.
All the planning application documents can be found on West Northants Council's website under applications relevant to Thorpe Mandeville.
